Pike County inmates attempt to break out

In Pike County, two inmates are now being accused of drilling through one of the jail’s walls in an escape attempt.  21 year old Derek Nunemaker and 25 year old Ronald Skeens are said to have used a piece of metal to carve a hole in the wall when they were caught on Wednesday by Freddie Lewis, the Pike County Jailer.  Both men are denying the accusations.  A metal spring clip from a weight bench was said to be used to make a screwdriver and about one foot of the wall had been drilled into.  Nunemaker is in jail on charges relating to theft and drugs.  Skeens is accused to violating parole.  Both are now facing attempted escape charges.  Lewis said the pair attempted to hide the hole by putting toilet paper and toothpaste in it.  After pleading not guilty, both said they would fight the charges.  They are due back in court Thursday.
