Death Investigation into Body Found on Trail at Jenny Wiley State Park

Update: The identity of the deceased individual discovered at Jenny Wiley State Park has been revealed. The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Tipton Allen of Pounding Mill, Virginia. Notification to the next of kin has been handled by the Virginia State Police. Allen was discovered on a hiking trail at Jenny Wiley State Park on the evening of Wednesday, June 13, 2018. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Floyd County Coroner’s Office. Cause of death appeared to be natural causes. The investigation is ongoing.

Original Story: Kentucky State Police Post 9 are investigating a body found on one of the hiking trails at the Jenny Wiley State Park. Shortly after 8pm Wednesday, June 13, 2018, Troopers were dispatched to the park along with Prestonsburg Police, Prestonsburg Fire Department, the Kentucky State Park Ranger Service and Trans Star Ambulance. Troopers were led to the scene where the body was found by another person who was hiking on the trail also. The body was pronounced deceased by the Floyd County Coroner’s Office. The name is not being released pending notification of the next of kin. At this time, it appears the death was natural causes and no autopsy will be performed. A full toxicology will be performed by the Coroner’s office. The investigation is ongoing.
