Operation SOS Announced to Combat Opioid Crisis

Attorney General Jeff Sessions and U.S. Attorney Robert Duncan, Jr. announced on Thursday, July 12, 2018, Operation Synthetic Opioid Surge (S.O.S.), a new program that seeks to reduce the supply of deadly synthetic opioids in high impact areas and to identify wholesale distribution networks and international and domestic supplies. As part of Operation S.O.S., the Department will launch an enforcement surge in ten judicial districts—those with the highest drug overdose death rates—including the Eastern District of Kentucky. Attorney General Sessions said when it comes to synthetic opioids, there is no such thing as a small case. Additional participating districts in our listening area include the Southern District of Ohio, the Eastern District of Tennessee, and Southern District of West Virginia.
