On Wednesday, September 12, 2018, Kentucky State Police Post 8 Morehead Troopers responded to assist the Clay City Police Department with a pursuit on the Mountain Parkway. Powell County Dispatch advised the Clay City Police Department was in pursuit of a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle. Troopers responded to assist in the pursuit, however the pursuit was terminated when the motorcycle was involved in a one vehicle collision on KY 11, less than a half mile east of Stanton. Upon arrival, Troopers determined the driver, identified as 32-year-old Bryon Benson of North Highlands, California, had traveled off the roadway, struck a fence, and was ejected from the motorcycle. Benson was pronounced deceased by Powell County Coroner Hondo Hearne. The collision remains under investigation.
