Arch Coal Company lays off over a hundred miners across the region
In an all-too familiar situation, Arch Coal Company has laid off more than 100 eastern Kentucky miners. An Arch spokesperson says the layoffs went into effect December 2nd. Thirty-seven positions at the Hazard mine, 42 at a Knott County mine, 33 in Breathitt County and 5 in Pike County were part of the layoffs. Arch says the cutbacks became a necessity due to the needs of the company's customers.
