Authorities check up on registered sex offenders
Many non-compliant sex offenders are now in jail thanks to a statewide roundup. State and federal law enforcement agencies worked together to make it happen.
In a news conference Tuesday morning, federal agents discussed the results of a statewide sex offender compliance check and appealed for the public's help in finding some who may be on the run. On December 6th and 7th, members of several law enforcement agencies went to the listed homes of convicted sex offenders, making sure they were still there.
“We might come back next week and check them again. It's not that we've done this and we're going to quit. We're going to continue this deal. These operations are going to continue to go on and it's going to be our efforts to make sure these people are doing what they're supposed to be doing,†Loren Carl, U.S. Marshal Service said.
Out of more than 300 offenders, six were arrested for being non-compliant, and five couldn't be found.
