Nearly 700 inmates due for "mandatory release"
On January 3rd, the Department of Corrections will release 696 inmates back into their communities--but many are wondering how successful the mandatory release program is going to be. The office of probation and parole will have their hands full as they help these mostly nonviolent offenders transition by finding them jobs and homes. While there's growing public concern over the release of these inmates, government officials say it's just as easy to change the program as it was to create it. Officials say the forty million dollars they expect to save will be reinvested back into programs for inmates.
