Body discovery opens Knott Co. murder investigation

A body found in Knott County Saturday afternoon has lead to a murder investigation. The man killed has been identified as 60-year-old Ruby Slone of Mallie, and now 29-year-old Shauna Sloan Lopez of Topmost has been arrested, charged with first degree murder and tampering with physical evidence. State police say Lopez allegedly shot Slone and stole money, which was her motive. Slone lived alone in his home in Mallie, but his family said he had a lot of friends. The family plans to have funeral services for Slone on Tuesday. Lopez is lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard with a one million dollar cash bond. Deer hunters in Knott County came across the dead body Saturday afternoon.
