Small new road makes a huge difference for remote Pike Co. communities
Isolation could soon be ending for people in three remote areas of Pike County. The Pike County Fiscal Court says construction will start next year on a new road that will connect Upper Pompey to the Fishtrap Dam area. That would cut drive time to Pikeville nearly in half for those communities. The new road will run from Upper Pompey to the Fishtrap Dam area by the RV park, which connects to US-460. The road will only be three-fourths of a mile, but it will cut the drive time to Pikeville from 42 miles to 12 miles. More than 100 people who live in Upper Pompey, Jonican, and Hurricane have to drive more than 40 miles one way just to go grocery shopping or to visit the doctor.
