Police arrest alleged funeral home burglar

A Floyd County man was arrested early this week after allegedly burglarizing a funeral home. Billy Samuel Nelson, 31, of Dwale, was arrested Monday at home by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, after he reportedly broke into Nelson Frazier Funeral Home in Martin. According to the police report, Nelson broke in and pried open a safe that was in the office and allegedly made off with $2,000 in cash. When arrested, Nelson allegedly stated that “he purchased $1,500 worth of pills from a subject the same night.” Nelson is charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking over $500, criminal mischief over $1,000, possession of drug paraphernalia, public intoxication, and second-degree possession of a controlled substance. Nelson is currently being held in the Floyd County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
