Mother arrested, charged after toddler found wandering road

A mother has been arrested after police say her 3-year-old daughter wandered away from home.

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office charged 20-year-old Lillian Jordan with endangering the welfare of a minor. Investigators say just before 11 a.m. Sunday, someone found the child walking alone on Rooks Branch Road, and after a concentrated effort to find someone who knew the child, investigators say they were able to track down Jordan, who was asleep. Investigators also say the child's mother did not make any 911 calls in an effort to find the child.

Kaylee, age 3, is safe and sound, but police say what happened Sunday morning could have easily turned tragic.

Jordan believes here daughter was trying to get to her mother’s house and simply wandered across the street. She says that her daughter has done this kind of thing before, despite taking a lot of precautions inside to try to prevent it. She says she’s had to keep putting indoor locks higher and higher on the door inside her home. Still the toddler gets out. And this time, she spent a night in jail for it.
