Suspicious invoices surface for Allen FD
Questions are being raised at Allen Volunteer Fire Department after a number of invoices from one contractor showed up on the books. A meeting of the the Allen Volunteer Fire Department tax board has been called for Monday, after 13 invoices from the last month totalling $175,267.94 were uncovered. The invoices, dated from Feb. 2 to March 16, are all tied to Lawson Contracting Inc., a corporation located in Garrett and owned by Darren Lawson. In the invoices obtained by The Floyd County Times, Lawson Contracting billed Allen Volunteer Fire Department, and was paid for a number of services, including an invoice submitted March 16 that listed three items, “pour and finish new concrete on inside of building†for $12,000, “saw cut and remove asphalt slab under concrete in small building†for $3,000, and “additional equipment and labor cost†for $4,500, for a total of $19,500. There were additionally two more invoices submitted by Lawson Contracting on March 16 totalling another $30,800. On March 21, three checks were written for the March 16 invoices by AVFD for a total of $50,300.
