Unemployment remains in decline
For the ninth consecutive month, Kentucky's unemployment rate has declined. The state Office of Unemployment and Training reported Wednesday that the jobless rate for the state fell to 8.6 percent in March, from 8.7 percent in February.
That rate is a full 1.1 percentage points below the March 2011 rate. Six of the state's 11 non-farm job sectors reported gains in jobs, while four sectors declined and one sector, mining, remained unchanged.
The largest sector, trade transportation and utilities, showed the largest gains with an increase of 1,900 jobs. It was followed by the leisure and hospitality sector with a gain of 1,800 jobs.The financial services sector had a one-month gain of 900 jobs.
