Officials: More Safety Resource officers needed
Kentucky Education officials said on Friday that the National Rifle Association's call for armed police officers in every school is not the answer to school safety issues. Instead, officials said every school should have a school resource officer who is not only armed, but is specially trained to work in schools. Kentucky's commissioner of education Terry Holliday said he supported safety in our schools, but no armed guard could have prevented the Newtown incident. Holliday said school resource officers are " part of the teaching and learning process." Officials said that school resource officers are not only present for protection, but are there to establish relationships with kids, talk with kids and in some cases counsel the kids.
