Dangerous curve on U.S. 460 set to be improved

Plans are now in the works to make one Pike County road safer after a number of serious accidents.

A certain section of U.S. 460 in the Millard community of Pike County has had people concerned for years. The Millard school principal, Rod Kiser, said these problems have always existed, and it’s nothing new. Millard Middle School sits right next to the curve, where there have been several accidents in recent years, including some fatalities. Kiser said there’s no escape route between the cliff and guardrail there.

The transportation department is now working on plans to improve the curve and make it a little safer. Officials say it will take time to acquire the right of way for the proposed plan, but they hope to get things started within the next year. A public meeting to discuss the proposed plans will be held tomorrow night at Millard Middle School from 6:00 to 8:00.
