Former Floyd Co. Coroner Roger Nelson passes away
Former Floyd County Coroner Roger Nelson, owner of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, of Martin, died Friday morning. County Clerk Chris Waugh remembered Nelson as an extremely likeable person, and said the fact that he was always the top vote-getter on the ballot was evidence that the sentiment was widely held.
News of Nelson's death became public in the middle of a fiscal court meeting. A note was brought into the courtroom and handed to County Attorney Keith Bartley, who then passed it to Judge-Executive R.D. "Doc" Marshall. Marshall, after reading it, hung his head and asked Bartley to break the news.
