State money coming to Floyd Co. for Elk Horn trail project

Floyd Countians got a boost to get moving Wednesday, as the fiscal court received a grant for trail work at Elk Horn Recreation and Education Park. County Judge-Executive R.D. “Doc” Marshall attended the announcement, where $1.8 million in grants for trail projects were awarded all across the state, and came home with an oversized check for $9,357 to be used to build and maintain the Elk Horn Fitness Trail. He was presented the award by First Lady Jane Beshear and the Department for Local Government. While the grant was one of the smaller of those handed out Wednesday, Marshall sees good things to come in the future. He said Floyd County is currently working with 12 other Eastern Kentucky counties to develop a connected trail system for hiking, biking, horses and ATVs.
