Man in fatal crash admits DUI

Police say a Martin County man involved in a deadly crash admitted to drinking before driving. Twenty-six-year-old Billie Evans is charged with murder and DUI. The accident happened Saturday morning on 292 in Warfield. Irving Spaulding, 21, who was a passenger in the truck driven by Evans died at the scene. The arrest citation says Evans failed field sobriety tests and admitted he had been drinking vodka earlier in the day. State police charged Evans with DUI on Saturday after the crash. Officials say he refused medical treatment at the scene, and they took him to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center. On Monday, state police charged him with murder. Tuesday morning, Evans waived his preliminary hearing, and the case went to the grand jury. His defense attorney did not want to comment. Bond is set at $100,000. Visitation for Spaulding is Tuesday and Wednesday at the Pack Bottom Church in Martin County. The funeral is Thursday at 1:00 at the Pack Bottom Church.
