Beshear's budget includes numerous cuts, provides for education and roads
In Govenor Steve Beshear's budget address last night, he made it clear: several agencies will be have to cut their budget by around 8.4 percent. Yet Beshear says he wants to protect education, most of all the K-12 classroom. The budget does include bonding allocations, such as millions to improve schools and even some for Rupp Arena. That outraged some Kentuckians worried at the prospect of more borrowing.
The governor said the bright spot in the budget is the road fund and proposes a 6 year plan that includes completing the Newtown Pike project in Lexington, and a half billion dollar plan to replace 240 substandard bridges. Lexington Mayor Jim Gray was happy, stating he appreciated the support.
