Perry inmate alleges jailer slapped her

A Perry County deputy jailer is facing assault charges after a female inmate has accused him of slapping her. Inmate Jessica Chapman says she has never had any problem with any of the guards at the Kentucky River Regional Jail, but she alleges that deputy jailer Roy Lawson slapped her Thursday night.

Tim Cliburn is the Kentucky River jail administrator and says any kind of charges like this are serious and must be investigated immediately, so he called Kentucky State Police. Investigators found that Deputy Jailer Roy Lawson apparently had made contact with Jessica Chapman and that the altercation was unwarranted.

Kentucky State Police took that information to the county attorney, and he was charged with fourth degree assault. He was arrested and brought to the Kentucky River Regional Jail where he has since bonded out. Cliburn says Lawson has been suspended from work pending the investigation. Jessica Chapman is in jail on bench warrants.
