Floyd Co. ballots nearly devoid of challengers to incumbents

Floyd County elections appear to be a rather dull affair so far this year, as all county officers are as of yet running unopposed.

According to officials with the Floyd County Clerk’s Office, no one has filed to run against the incumbents in the commonwealth’s attorney, circuit clerk or district judge races. Arnold Brent Turner, Douglas Hall and Jimmy “Blue” Marcum have all filed to resume their respective posts, but have yet to see a challenger. State records indicate that Speaker of the House Greg Stumbo has yet to file, but is expected to file soon. Sen. Johnny Ray Turner and Rep. Hubert Collins are also running unopposed for their respective seats in the legislature.

Any prospective candidate for these races has until Tuesday to file. The one contested race on the ballot is for Supreme Court, as Janet Stumbo seeks to regain her place on the bench by beating the man who unseated her, Will T. Scott. There are several city and school board races to be had in the fall, though the deadline for those is in August.
