Nearly $10 million more on the way to fund LIHEAP

Kentucky's Low income Home Energy Assistance Program has received an additional $9.5 million to help the state's poor stay warm through the winter. Gov. Steve Beshear announced the additional funding yesterday, saying the financial help is critical at this time of year. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is behind the funding to help low-income families heat their homes. Kentucky's total funding for the fiscal year is now $46.4 million. That money is disbursed by community action agencies across the state, and families can apply through March 31--unless the funding runs out before that.
