Explosion rocks Wheelwright
An explosion Friday evening in Wheelwright was enough to get everyone’s attention. Residents of Golf Course Hollow Road not only heard the blast, but report they felt it as well. Andy Akers, the mayor of Wheelwright and the assistant fire chief, says this sort of thing has happened before. Officials say it began as a forest fire that actually started on the other side of the mountain in Melvin on Tackett Hollow, and for now, they’re hoping and waiting for rain and colder weather to bring that fire to an end.
