KDMC forced to lay off workers, close one location
A spokesman for King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland says the hospital has laid off workers and is closing at least one of its satellite centers.
On Thursday, Spokesman Tom Dearing attributed the reduction to fewer patients, reduced Medicare and Medicaid payments, among other factors. Dearing says patient care areas remain adequately staffed. He would not say how many people lost their jobs but said the move affects workers across the board, including some physicians. The Service Employees International Union District 1199 said in a statement that at least 69 employees represented by the union were laid off.
