Enthusiasm for motorsports leads to desire for a governing board
The "Arm Drop Drags" organized at the Combs Airport in Rt. 321 have been an unequivocal success, leading to spectator's cars parked on the roadside as far as the eye can see and throngs of people lining the viewing areas and guardrail to be a part of one of the biggest new events to come out of the region for some time.
The Prestonsburg City Council is considering creating a board to oversee such events. The council held the first reading Monday night of an ordinance to create a Prestonsburg Motorsports Board. Under the ordinance, the board would include nine volunteer members appointed by the mayor and approved by the council. The members would serve staggered four-year terms.
According to the ordinance, the board would have “full power and authority to manage motorsports activities, including but not limited to planning and execution of events relating to all types of power sports, make rules and regulations pertaining to said events and to the use of city-owned property used for events.”
