Health department takes a $200K budget hit, expects to be okay

While the Floyd County Health Department did not emerge unscathed from changes in the way the state funds health departments, the center’s director says the impact of lost funding is expected to be minimal. FCHD will receive $339,000 in state funding in the upcoming fiscal year, a drop of about $200,000. The department’s total budget is $3.7 million. The department provides preventative medicine to low-income patients. Services include vaccinations, the WIC program, nutrition counseling, well-child visits and family planning.
