Trooper hospitalized, another man dead after gunfight with KSP
A state trooper is recovering in the hospital and another man is dead following a gunfight.
Just after 8 p.m. Sunday evening Kentucky State Police in Hazard got the call about 59-year-old Danny Johnson shooting at cars that passed by his home. Brenda Southwood and Larry Adams, who were in the car Johnson shot at, were both struck and received serious injuries.
When state troopers arrived at Johnson's Breathitt County home, he allegedly opened fire on them, and the troopers returned fire. After a brief gunfight Johnson was dead and trooper Charles King had been shot in the face. All the victims were hospitalized for their injuries, and Trooper King is still recuperating.
