CAM forced to lay off miners
Nearly 200 people are out of work at a Pike County coal company.
Central Appalachian Mining (CAM) in Pikeville laid off 193 people Monday. Officials with CAM's parent company, Rhino Resource Partners, say the layoffs are temporary.
They say many factors played a role including the mild winter and warm spring which caused less of a demand for coal, so they have not been selling as much as usual to utility companies. Officials are not sure when the employees can come back to work.
