Local coalition supports legislation banning smoking in the workplace

Supporters of legislation requiring all workplaces to ban smoking are following with interest a bill before this year’s General Assembly, while also rallying at the local level if the statewide effort fails.

The Breathe Easy Floyd County Coalition will hold a public meeting at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the Floyd County Public Library, to provide information about House Bill 289, which would require all workplaces in the state to ban smoking. The meeting will also focus on efforts that can be made locally. Jean Rosenberg, a community advocate for the Floyd County Health Department, which has been spearheading local smoke-free efforts over the last several years, said she believes a lot can be accomplished on the local level.
