Be vigilant against scams in storm-damaged areas
Thousands of people have had their lives turned upside down after deadly tornadoes ripped through their neighborhoods on March 2. They were victimized once by nature and now the fear is some could become victims again--by thieves. The Kentucky Attorney General's office is watching out for such illegal conduct in storm-ravaged communities.
That includes not only home repair scams, but also phony charities used to collect money in and around these areas, and price gouging by contractors, suppliers, or vendors of day-to-day necessities. If you learn of a potential scam, you are urged to call the Disaster Scam Hotline at 1-855-450-5645.
