Diabetes Alert Day tomorrow
Tomorrow is “Diabetes Alert Day,†and the Floyd County Health Department is looking to raise awareness of type 2 diabetes. Also known as adult-onset diabetes, it's a disease anybody can develop, but some people are more at risk than others.
For example, if you have a family history of diabetes, you are at increased risk for developing the disease, especially if a close family member — mother, father, brother, or sister — has diabetes. A healthier diet and exercise are still the best weapons in the fight.
Knowing your risk for type 2 diabetes is an important first step toward preventing or delaying the onset of the disease. Find out your risk by taking the Diabetes Risk Test at www.diabetes.org. The Floyd County Health Department has free resources to help you learn more about your risk for diabetes, as well as ways to help you lower your risk.
