Mingo Co. mother sentenced for two-year-old's death
A mother from Mingo County, West Virginia, charged in the death of her two-year-old child will spend up to 15 years in prison. Cristy Chafin pleaded guilty last week to child neglect resulting in death. The judge sentenced her to between three and 15 years in prison.
Last summer, Chafin's two-year-old son Christopher was found dead in her Gilbert apartment. The cause of death was never released. Chafin's boyfriend, James Simpson, was also charged in the case, but the charges are still pending, according to a spokesperson with the Mingo County Prosecutor's Office. Simpson was never indicted.
