Potential law would require licenses for social workers holding degrees
Front line social workers with social work degrees would be required to be licensed under legislation that passed the House Monday. House Bill 237, sponsored by Rep. Susan Westrom, D-Lexington, passed the House by a vote of 74-18 and now goes up for consideration before the Senate. Should it pass into law, social workers with social work degrees who are currently employed by the state would have until July 1, 2015 to be licensed. The licensing requirement would not apply to currently-employed social workers who do not hold degrees in social work.
