One dead, firefighter in ICU after Sunday fire
One man is dead following a fire early Sunday morning.
Paintsville 911 received a call shortly after midnight reporting a house fire at 1120 Short Street. Once firefighters arrived on the scene and began to combat the blaze, they discovered the body of John W. Meade, 46, still inside the home. Meade was transported to Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by Johnson County Coroner J.R. Frisby.
A firefighter was also injured in the line of duty. The firefighter, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital, where he is being treated in the intensive care unit.
The incident is still under investigation by Kentucky State Police in Pikeville. Units on the scene that day included Kentucky State Police Detective Jason Dials, Trooper Rodney Pratt, KSP Arson Investigator Randy Gabbard, Deputy State Fire Marshal Dave Broderick, the Paintsville and West Van Lear Fire Departments, Paintsville EMS, the Paintsville Police Department, the Johnson County Sheriffâ€™s Department, and the Johnson County coronerâ€™s office.
