Prestonsburg police seize large quantity of synthetic marijuana
Police have said they will be cracking down on the growing problem posed by synthetic marijuana. Authorities in Prestonsburg followed a tip to the Smoke Shack, where they found and seized over $22,000 worth of the dangerous drug, and charged Thomas Jones for possession.
Though popular belief is that the drug--sold as bath salts or potpurri, under names like K2 and Spice--still occupies a loophole in the law that makes it legal, police are quick to point out that's no longer the case. In addition to laws passed at the county level in various areas across the region, legislation has been enacted to make synthetic marijuana just as illegal to sell and possess as regular marijuana.
