Jenkins plant closure means 60+ out of a job this summer

The Mayor of Jenkins said an estimated 15 percent of the workforce in his city will be without a job by the middle of summer.

Baker Hughes, formerly known as BJ Services, will be closing their plant in the Jenkins gateway industrial park, and with the closure comes a heavy toll on the area's employment and development.

This is not the first the city of Jenkins or Letcher County has heard of layoffs this year. Jenkins Mayor G.C. Kincer said he was sad to hear the news that more than five dozen people will be out of a job by the end of June.
