Pike Co. airport could expand to commercial airlines

The Pikeville-Pike County Regional Airport could soon be adding some degree of commercial airline service. Officials say they are talking with two major airlines that could provide daily service at the airport. The flights would serve as connecting flights to larger airport hubs in cities like Charlotte and Atlanta. The airport would serve a 13-county area in the tri-state region. That would include nine counties in Kentucky, three in Virginia, and one in West Virginia. Officials hope to have something in place by the end of this year.
