Drag races pull huge crowd again, despite the rain
Neither the prevailing rain, nor the muddy fields, nor the insufficient parking could keep fans from flocking in droves to Combs Field on Saturday. Just as it was last year, the Hillbilly Arm Drop Drags were an unqualified success
The car culture of the Big Sandy region has been growing in the past few years--car shows and cruise-ins like the East Ky. Gearheads shows in Paintsville have been growing exponentially. But the spectacle (and noise!) of live, organized drag racing has been sorely missed.
Many of those rain-soaked fans left the airfield wanting more, and many are convinced the Hillbilly Arm Drop Drags could draw similar crowds more frequently than just once a year. The organizers, and the sponsors and tourism departments that support it, are considering the prospect of holding the drags more often.
