Stumbo continues push for UPike to be named a state school
House speaker Greg Stumbo is continuing to push for UPIKE to be named a state school. Stumbo said on Monday that he would not support increased funding for higher education "until there is a resolution of equity for kids in eastern Kentucky."
Stumbo also stated that meant improved access to higher education for students in Appalachia, and that the best option in his opinion is to make UPike a four year state school. Stumbo acknowledged that he would be open to discuss other options, such as providing more state scholarships for students in the region to attend UPike, but joining the state system was his preference. The issue will continue to come up again and again in Stumbo's opinion until it becomes a reality.
