Kentucky is set to host a telethon benefiting Hurricane Sandy relief
Kentucky players will be part of a state-wide telethon Wednesday night benefiting superstorm Sandy relief efforts. The telethon will air from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. on WKYT and IMG Sports Network affiliates with Wildcat players taking phone calls and donations and continue for 24 hours. All proceeds will go to storm victims.
Kentucky coach John Calipari came up with the idea after talking with friends in the affected areas in New Jersey and New York. In January 2010, he organized the "Hoops for Haiti" telethon benefiting victims of the Haitian earthquake. Calipari said donations will matched. Telephone numbers will be released later.
Kentucky sophomore guard and New Jersey native Brian Long said his family have lost electricty but emerged from the storm fairly well. He said relief efforts such as this telethon show that Coach Cal cares and that people around the country care and want to help.
