Former Breathitt Co. sheriff is sentenced in a vote-buying scheme

John L. Turner, the former sheriff of Breathitt County, will serve a two-year sentence by probation after pleading guilty to vote-buying charges last summer.

The former superintendent of the Breathitt County School System, Arch Turner, is scheduled to be sentenced for his involvement this week as well. John Turner admitted to his involvement along with a group of others in April and May of 2010. Turner faced a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
