Floyd Co. woman faces 30 counts of animal cruelty
Floyd County Animal Control officials followed an anonymous tip late last week that led them to a home where they discovered several dead and several malnourished animals. The home was owned by Vanessa Howard.
WYMT reported that nine dead animals were found and several others located in very poor physical condition. Howard was charged with 30 counts of animal cruelty. Howard allegedly owns several other properties where the animal abuse could also be occurring, according to officials who currently plan to investigate the other properties.
The animals recovered had gone weeks without food and water. Officials with the Floyd County Animal Shelter stated the animals were very skinny, had fleas, and needed help. The animals wthat were rescued are now at the Floyd County Shelter where they will receive care until court proceedings conclude.
Howard pleaded not guilty to the charges on Friday. Each cruelty count has a maximum one year jail sentence.
