Fatalities on the rise on Kentucky roadways
Statistics that run from January 1st of this year through September 30 indicate that, so far in 2012, 543 people have died on Kentucky roadways. That number is up slightly; there were six fewer fatalities this time last year.
Of the 420 motor vehicle fatalities, 238 victims were not wearing seatbelts. Of 65 motorcycle fatalities, 33 were not wearing helmets. Ten out of eleven ATV riders killed were not wearing helmets, either. In addition, 42 pedestrians have been killed so far 2012.
Of these numbers, 95 fatalities resulted from crashes involving the suspected use of alcohol.
