State auditor's report reveals excessive spending at Garrett Fire Dept.
A state audit report has uncovered $123,000 in questionable spending at a Floyd Co. volunteer fire department. The spending involved thousands of dollars in electronics purchases, restaurant bills, gift cards, and a car.
The Kentucky auditor's office released the report of the Garrett Fire District on Tuesday. The audit traced the questionable spending to the former Assistant Chief Terry Triplett, who also served as the treasurer. The report also found $62,000 in cash withdrawals and that Triplett purchased a vehicle in the department's name. Triplett has reportedly been missing since February.
The state auditor's office called the financial situation at the department "very shocking."
