Perry Co. superintendent retires

After weeks of speculation, and scheduled (and rescheduled) meeting dates, the superintendent of the Perry Co. School System announced his retirement this morning. The Perry Co. School Board scheduled a meeting earlier this month that was expected to involve the termination of John Paul Amis' contract, but the meeting was cancelled without a reason being given.
A new meeting was called for today. Amis announced that he was retiring as the system's superintendent, a decision that goes into effect November 1st.
