An 11 year old is facing charges after bringing a loaded gun to school

WYMT is reporting that a child is facing charges and letters were sent home to parents of children at a Pulaski County elementary school after police say a student brought a loaded gun into the school.

The Assistant Superintendent tells us that on Monday morning, the 11-year-old boy told a teacher at Southern Elementary School that he forgot to take his gun out of his pocket before leaving for school.

The school system says it did not issue an emergency notice at the time because the child self-reported the gun and there was no reason to believe there was a threat.

Pulaski County Sheriff Tom Wood tells us that the child has been charged and is in a juvenile detention center. Authorities have spoken to the boy's father, and the investigation is ongoing. Additional charges may be brought.
