A Floyd County Elementary school is damaged by Monday flooding

A Floyd County school that is no stranger to flash flooding was faced with another round of heavy rains on Monday afternoon.

McDowell Elementary was damaged as flood waters surrounded the school in a matter of minutes. Principal Rady Martin spoke with Q95 News concerning the flooding, saying "The water broke over the bank in a matter of minutes, and had the entire campus flooded in around five minutes."

No children were present when the flooding occurred. Most employees had also left for the day when the flooding took place between 4:30 and 4:45 p.m.

Students are out of school in Floyd County today while cleanup efforts take place throughout the county.
