Kentucky State Police "Operation Holiday Lights" in full swing

Kentucky State Police have launched a nighttime holiday enforcement campaign designed to reduce traffic fatalities on Kentucky roadways. Operation holiday lights runs through January 1st. All Kentucky State Police posts and commercial vehicle regions are using traffic safety checkpoints and covert details in high traffic areas to assist in the campaign. The primary focus during the checkpoints is seat belt usage with an added emphasis on the use of proper child seat restraints. Crash data indicates that a majority of fatal crashes involve unrestrained drivers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that nighttime drivers are less likely to buckle up than daytime drivers.
