Prestonsburg mayor breaks a deadlock by voting to purchase property for Community Wellness Center
The mayor of Prestonsburg broke a deadlock of the Prestonsburg City Council on Friday by voting to purchase the former Prestonsburg Elementary property. The city council met on Friday during a special called meeting, during which the eight members found themselves evenly split on a vote to purchase the property for the purpose of building a community wellness center on the site. Four members were in favor of purchasing the property for one million dollars, while four voted against the purchase. Mayor Jerry Fannin cast the deciding vote in favor of buying the lot located next to Prestonsburg City Hall. The council had expressed prior interest in building the center on the campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College in Prestonsburg.
