Kentucky is on pace to have the fewest number of motor vehicle fatalities in the past five years
Kentucky State Police report 625 motor vehicle fatalities this year compared to 738 through the same time period in 2012. Kentucky State Police are also tracking the number of drivers wearing seatbelts. Since 2005 that number has gone from 66% to 82%. Authorities say seatbelts, safer vehicles, faster response time from emergency officials and overall awareness of traffic laws are all contributing to the decrease in the number of fatalities this year.
